CTC recently pledged money to two crowdfunding initiatives that make innovative use of technology. In the process of doing this, CTC will be contributing to the local community in Croydon.
The idea originally came about as a ‘thank you' to contributors to the CTC market review of growth rates. Charitable donations were made to a programme taking disabled children on theatre visits. But then CTC expanded funding to pledge money via Kickstarter.
Several CTC staff members were involved in identifying worthy Kickstarter projects that related to technology. From those nominated, two were selected - Primo and Kano - which were both educational products.
Primo and Kano (by coincidence) featured in an Observer article in January highlighting fun ways to engage children in computer programming. As a result of the pledges, CTC will receive the Primo and Kano products when they start shipping in summer 2014. When they arrive, the products will be donated to local schools and there is an ambition to keep a link with the schools and see how they progress.
